For the past 80 years, some of St. Paul’s most accomplished public speakers and communicators have emerged from the King Boreas Toastmasters Club to serve as community and business leaders and people who are always ready to share their gifts as public speakers.
Taking their club’s name from the Greek god of the cold north wind and the bringer of winter, the King Boreas Club is anything but cold. In the past 80 years, more than 1,000 St. Paulites have found the warmth of friendship alongside the spark of helping each other master public speaking.
The King Boreas Toastmasters have not allowed anything from a World War to a global pandemic slow them down since their first meeting on August 26, 1941, and their official founding on October 22, 1941, holding 4,184 consecutive weekly meetings, and counting: a true testament to the staying power of the club members and the Toastmasters teachings.
King Boreas has had five new young members join since the beginning of Covid, thanks to new technology.
The Club believes in the continuing improvement of all members and that all members can learn to be better speakers. Nationally recognized business leader, New York Times best-selling author, syndicated columnist, and former King Boreas Club member Harvey Mackay in fact credits Toastmasters with his success.
“At 21, I joined King Boreas Toastmasters and without question it was one of the most important decisions of my life and career,” Mackay said. “Once you’ve been in Toastmasters and become an accomplished speaker, then over a lifetime you become a better leader, a better communicator, a better manager, and a better salesperson.”
